Sorry, ignorant cishet scum here, etc. etc. I was wondering if you could explain the concept of technolgykin to me? I'm having trouble understanding what exactly it is you identify as.

Please don’t call yourself “cishet scum”, I don’t like nor do I ever use that term. :)

Technology-related kin is a broad umbrella of otherkin whose kintypes are related to technology: for example, robotkin, aikin (artificial intelligence), glitchkin, computerkin… I am actually the only codekin I know of. One thing to realize is that these are all very different, and everyone will identify as or with their kintype in their own way.

I can give some examples of how different individuals identify as different things, but just be wary that this doesn’t cover every case. Also be wary that if a tumblr user says things that are absolutely ridiculous (especially if they mention “cultural appropriation”) they are a troll and we (the otherkin community) hate them as much as you do.

For some robotkin, being robotkin means they feel like a robot. Like, they feel like they were programmed to do things, have separate parts, and so on. Other robotkin may feel like the “ghost in the machine”, like they are a spirit that inhabits a robot. Still others may feel robotkin as a very strong metaphor for their personality. There’s a lot of ways to identify as kin.

This isn’t 100% accurate, but I think this is a good way to explain otherkin feelings to non-otherkin (and again, the disclaimer about it not applying to everyone applies).  It’s the feeling of connecting with something so much that you know that thing is part of you. In some way, you may feel like you are a personification of your kintype, or that it’s a strong metaphor for your personality - a metaphor so strong that you couldn’t really describe yourself without it.

This is just for technologykin. Other kin may believe they were reincarnated, or identify as their kintypes as still other ways. If you want to learn more, you could always ask around the kin community (respectfully, of course).

I don’t think I did a great job answering the question, but otherkin feelings are hard to explain if you’ve never had them - like explaining color to a blind man, perhaps. But I hope this helps you understand it a little bit more. Thanks for being kind about your question.
